Perhaps you have you made some minor laptop configuration changes and noted that your mousepad has stopped behaving normally? Perhaps you had configured it to Scroll and now it doesnt or your tapping function is either on of off but in any case not as normal.

You already tried system restore?

Do you have the Application and Recovery Driver DVD disc that came with your machine?

If you have an Alps (maybe the same with other makes but I don’t know) mousepad then it could be that the drivers have become corrupted by conflicting information.

Have you been pursuaded to download and install sp25796 (HP/Compaq) to no avail?

If you have the recovery disc (mentioned above) then you can try this – Go to My Computer > OS:C > swsetup > sp25796 > In that folder you should find an icon Uninstall Click and uninstall the sp25796 driver.

Restart your machine to finish that uninstall.

Put the Recovery disc in your CD drive and close the tray. (It should autoplay) When the screen opens uncheck everything except the Hardware Enabling Drivers and then everything under that except the Alps touchpad driver. Click install and when invited Reboot to complete the process.

When your machine has rebooted you can, if succesful configure your Alps mousepad to function just as you like it with scrolling and tapping etc and now maybe even better than before!

I hope that helps – please leave a message good or bad.
