r is Cardiac Parvo, Just as deadly. It’s a disease that is highly contagious and can be lethal for young dogs and puppies because they have not yet had the time to built up a strong immune system.
Parvovirus Transmission
It has been said that this is not an airborne disease and that the virus is picked up from the excrement of infected dogs and this virus can survive for very long periods of time. So, all it takes is for another dog or other animal to step in it and it’s then quickly spread all over the place. They say that the only effective way to clean and disinfect all the contaminated areas is with chlorine bleach, including food and water bowls and any other areas the dog would have had contact with.
Symptoms
The dog will be lethargic with a loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting. It’s vital to get him to the Vets immediately.
Treatment
A quick diagnosis by your Vet is vital for a chance of survival as there is no real cure for Parvo virus and much is dependent on the skill and dedication of the Vet , who will try to stabilize the symptoms and support the dog’s immune system to help him pull through. It has been said that puppies fighting this disease have a 50-50 chance of survival if they get quick supportive treatment.
Prevention
Have your dog vaccinated as soon as possible and continue with booster injections.
