Since I wrote previously about Dock Menu and Banner Rotator, I can tell from my keyword stats that some of you are looking for information on the Dock Gallery plug-in.
I haven’t used it previously but in order to find out what difficulties you might be having I will try to get it working in this post and explain my method which might help.
First get the free zip file from http://www.flashxml.net/free/download/dock-gallery.zip unpack it,  inside you should find 11 items.
Then you need to make a folder named “flashxml” and then inside that another folder named “dock-gallery-fx” AND inside of that folder put the 11 items from the zip.
Now, using an ftp client upload the “flashxml” folder you created together with it’s contents to the CONTENT folder of your WordPress Blog. Not the plug-in directory (folder) but the wp-content directory.
Now and if you haven’t already done so, locate and install the WordPress Plug-in “dock-gallery-fx” via the Admin of your blog etc or as I invariably do, download the zip file from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/dock-gallery-fx.zip, unpack and upload the folder (not the whole zip file just the folder inside it)  ”dock-gallery-fx” to your WordPress blog PLUGIN directory.  So you should see wp-content/plugins/dock-gallery-fx, OK?
Now you have a folder “flashxml” in wp-contents and a folder “dock-gallery-fx” in the plug-in directory.
Activate the WordPress plug-in via the Dashboard > Plugins > Inactive Plugins = Activate.
Add the suggested text inside the brackets dock-gallery-fx width=”600″ height=”400″ AND /dock-gallery-fx, into a post or a page and save it as a draft for preview. The width and height can be adjusted of course but I am using the suggested size to trial.
See their Read Me file. 5. Go to **Dock Gallery FX** from the **Settings** tab and update the path in case you used a different one.  Seems to be right although I do find the flashxml/dock-gallery-fx instruction (ex the Read Me file) a tad confusing but know I know that it actually mean two files: flashxml and then sub file dock-gallery-fx. Save it as a draft and preview it. Bingo it works!
Now we have the plug-in working as it is straight out of the wrapper so now you can download and overwrite the settings etc from their website and all as in the Read Me file and you need to substitute your own pictures and text in place of the ones they use for demonstration purposes. 
If you follow similar methods to those I outline in the posts http://www.theinfochief.com/2850/dock-menu-fx-photo-gallery/ and http://www.theinfochief.com/3314/dock-fx-the-dock-menu-and-banner-rotator-plug-ins-for-wordpress/ regarding the images, image paths and docs etc you should be able to add your own photos to this plug-in and make your subsequent posts by using file names for image1, image2 etc. You need to keep in mind that on this plug-in you have images sized both as “thumbs” and images “big” so you will need to amend the picture names in both files. I guess where I have written about trios of files, in this case you will actually have quads!
I hope that’s OK and I do not want to go on and on if you don’t need it. However if anyone would like me to elaborate on anything, please let me know otherwise I’ll leave it there.

Are you looking for  your WordPress api key, perhaps in order to activate a plugin like the Akismet anti spam plugin or maybe to be able to do remote publishing or whatever? Then those of you that have self hosted blogs (that is you use the WordPress blog software and perhaps the themes etc but on your own hosting account like Vodahost for instance) could be looking around your WordPress “back office” for something that you don’t have!

To get an API key, sign up with WordPress.com for a free “WordPress Hosted” blog account to get your api key that you can then use on your self hosted blogs. OK?

When you have signed up for the WordPress hosted free account then log in and click the account name at the top right which will take you to the next screen Global Dashboard and under Profile is your API key and as it says: Don’t share your API key, it’s like a password.
