I never know how these things happen, but I recently had an issue with my computer DVD CD burner software giving messages to say that the required drive was not present.
In other words, I put CD or DVD rom in the tray and the drive didn’t show when I looked for it under Start > My Computer!
So as per usual I Googled for possible solutions under various terms such as HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-416B the drive (as it shows in Device Manager) and as I knew that the drive was present.
The geek-speak got in the way of any real understanding on my part but anyway and despite that, I checked out the Enabled DMA stuff under Control Panel > Systems > Hardware > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers etc and the Secondary IDE Channel/s and that or they seemed OK although what they are I still don’t know.
It appeared that the drive was installed and enabled under Start > System > Hardware > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives and so in desperation, I uninstalled it and rebooted the computer hoping that MS Windows would re-discover it and reinstall the thing.

When I did that, lo and behold it was working.

Why? Who knows but hey as long as I get what I want, who cares?

However, I still couldn’t get the drive to burn so now I can play a DVD but I can’t burn a new one. Progress Indeed!

I remembered a while ago having a similar problem with my notebook DVD burner and that I had fixed that by getting help at the software maker’s website so I thought OK, lets go there. The software maker (Sonic RecordNow) is now part of Roxio and on their website I found a small and importantly FREE to use, application program PX Engine 4.18.16a (updated 8.18.09) and downloaded and ran that hoping to resolve any configuration issues that might be stopping me.

After running that application file my CD burner software sprang back to life. Fixed! I put the software application file pxengine4_18_16a into my Programs Sonic folder for safe keeping and wrote this little account sincerely hoping that it might be found by someone else struggling with a similar issue.

Does your XP keep on rebooting, you shut down and it starts again and again?

Try this?

Start>Control Panel>System = System Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings>Systems Failure>Unselect Auto Restart>OK>OK again>Close Control Panel>Start>Turn Off Computer>Turn Off and you should get a blue screen with a Stop message clue to the problem, similar to that below.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Stop: 0x0000000A (0x000002CC, 0x000000FF, 0×00000000, 0x804E3B58)

Now – Have you made any changes recently?

Try System Restore via Start >All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>Restore My computer to an earlier time> Select a bolded date to try to get back to the way it was before this failure started to show itself. Sometimes selecting different dates will works when one date may have failed.

If to no avail you can reverse it it back to your current setup so no worries and then follow through with the Stop: 0x00000000A procedures.

One more thing though!! Do you have Adaptec UDF Reader installed?

(My machine running XP Home with Sonic Record Now and Adaptec UDF Reader is fine but my machine with XP Pro and Roxio developed this reboot problem that I solved by deleting UDF Reader as below.)

So – Have you installed it or made any changes in that respect recently?

Have used CD/DVD writing programs?

If Yes then look for Adaptec UDF Reader in the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Tool and Uninstall it if you find it listed.

Try rebooting to complete the uninstall and again then hopefully it will have resolved the problem and windows will shutdown normally.

If you tried the System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings>Systems Failure and unselected Auto Restart then remember to select it again.

If that fails then I regret that I must point you back to the Stop: message and the procedures details in the STOP message.

If I get more info then I will add to to this post and if you have any solutions I will be delighted to add it here with a link credit to yourself.

Internet Marketing Basics – Is it Expensive to Start Out?
By John N Stanley

In a previous article, I wrote about “honest professionals” and remember this being internet marketing they want to sell to you! They’re not saints but they do realise that for you to spend your money with them you will need to trust them first. There are a lot of people in the internet marketing community who you “should listen to” and as a way of gaining your trust, they will give you lots of their knowledge and products for free in exchange for your contact details. This is called “list building.”

They will most likely ask for your first name and e-mail address, and then they will E-mail you and ask you to click on a line of “hyperlinked text” to confirm that they have your permission to send you what ever you requested. That is “opt in” and you have opted to become a part of their list and so for as long as you remain “subscribed” they effectively have your permission to E-mail you about their products.

The E-mail world is desperately trying to clean up its act and become a “spam free zone” and your “opt in” usually comes with a promise not to pass on your details to anyone else. At the bottom of every new mail that E-mail marketers send you they will give you an option to “opt out” or “un-subscribe” from any future contact. The “ultimate power” lies with the customer “delete” “opt out” “un-subscribe” and when you, in turn are dealing with your hard won client contact data base they will have the power to delete you as well! If a marketer sends you mail without the correct opt in promises then I would suggest that you do not proceed to give your details.

Yeah but what about all of the other e-mails I get that I didn’t ask for? Well that’s SPAM.

After you take some of this free stuff and start to receive e-mails, lots of them, you will know fairly soon whom you like to hear from and who you don’t like. There will be those that will be passing you good knowledge by way of free pdf reports and links to watch training videos etc and they will often give a lot of good and free advice to Newbies seeking to learn. Invaluable stuff, because they are working to gain your trust and they hope that once you trust them you will be more likely to buy something from them and the theory is that you are then more likely to buy from them again. Resist the temptation of buying every product that you are offered with an appealing sales pitch. They are internet marketers and they want your money. Take the advice and, buy the product if you want to and can afford it but please realise that there is no “fast road to riches” and if that is what is being promised DELETE. The truly experienced are indeed able to develop and package a product, promote it in a way that can sometimes generate lots of cash quick but the way to success is to learn the craft and just like any other profession the craft of internet marketing has to be acquired and developed.

Is it expensive to begin an internet-marketing career?

On top of the expense of a computer, a fast modem, E-mail client, a printer, a scanner, a photo shop type of programme for manipulating images etc. there are other tools that you will need to develop a long-term career as an internet marketer. Hey but in this modern world many people have the basic components already just as a part of their online everyday world so it is not all that, extra expensive to begin to acquire the skills of internet marketing.

The beauty of internet marketing is that as you learn the skill you should be acquiring the income to further develop the skills and acquire the technologies to, further enable you to succeed.

There is a saying “Never spend on internet marketing what you didn’t earn from internet marketing.” Now that’s a good mantra and “almost true” however there are start up costs involved that cannot be avoided but those costs can be high or low or almost nothing if you start out slow.

Market research is everything, testing is everything, before you start paying out for your own domain names, hosting accounts, etc. You should fully understand the market research process and other ways of generating the lifeblood, that is “traffic” this otherwise is “putting the cart before the horse.” Check out “Market Samurai” (keyword research tool) the full version is paid for but you can get a basic version free and it comes with a host of tutorials videos to help you along the way.

When you are ready to get your own web hosting, opt for a host company that is extendable i.e. after you have your first domain name setup like http://www.myexampledomain.com check that you can purchase and host extra domains under the one account. Take MySQL Databases as an example, some hosting companies will allow you to create as many databases as are necessary and separate E-mail accounts for each sub-domain and all in one set price, so hosting does not need to be expensive.

There are a few extra tools that you’ll need to make long term money on the internet as well as a least one web site to start with anyway: AdWords, AdSense, affiliations, auto-responders, banners, links, mailing lists, pay-per-click advertising, merchant accounts, submission services, and special software, just to name the basics.

That’s quite a list and whilst it is best not to start out literally penniless, I think it is a good idea not to have “more money than sense” as my mother would say, at least in the early stages. You can start out by setting up blogs free and host them with blog sites like WordPress or have a domain name free with Weebly for example which will help you discover how things work and without risking or wasting a penny.

Before settling on products to promote, whether they are E books or real life products to sell as an affiliate, the “Market Research” should dictate what that product are and what the demand is. To build a webpage or a blog post to display products is easy and quick by comparison to the market research required. Finding the products and by doing things in order, will better ensure your success and keep the cost to a minimum. Key word research is vital, and there are tools available now that make this part of the process so much easier now.

In conclusion the first steps to internet marketing can be inexpensive or very expensive, it’s up to you to decide on your budget as only you can. Do not be tempted to try to go a fast track route until you are either very confident that you have all of the ingredients in place, or have decided that you can afford the experiment by buying your traffic using your cash instead of your time.
